HUngry For Hope

Hungry For Hope….

If there’s a will, there’s a way… Neither really understood nor had the feeling of it until I pushed myself to an extent

Haha…..I can……. and I really did it …..Keke, I manage to go through this 30 hour famine camp event. The THEME of the event this year: Hungry for hope or 因为你,孩有希望。It simply means because of you, there is hope for the children.

Well…this is not a camp where you starve yourself aimlessly for 30 hours and tell people around that you manage to survive without eating solid food for 30 hours. Nah…tht’s no big deal…You know why? Simply because, there are children out there who fight to survive without food and water and other basic necessities everyday, not to mention that their living condition is truly beyond imagination. They are victim of wars, victim of famine, and victim of disaster. So broken….

I realized, I’ve been so ignorant and naïve….. The world is not as beautiful as described. Its ugly. In fact, there are lots of things happening around that we don’t know or rather we choose not to know maybe simply because it doesn’t involve me and you. We choose to hinder ourselves from ugly wars and news. We shut our eyes to avoid ugly scenes and pictures. Honestly, I hated them. However, I’ve learned… its just out there and I could not just turn my back to ignore .

You know guys? We should

  • Not waste WATER!!! Clean and clear water is so precious to the people in Africa. They had none k…They had no choice but to consume polluted and dirty water full with harmful microorganism like: Guinea worms. Eventually, the worms will grow inside their body, waddling around in between your flesh and lastly come out from your bowel. Its PAINFUL!!!

  • Love your house!!!! A shelter ….a strong and permanent one I meant….its such a luxury to have a roof over your head….Families in Africa have no choice but just to set up a “tent” in the middle of no where to protect themselves…their tent…its just a few sticks and a canvas over it…its so sad…I myself cannot imagine living without my toilet! I love my toilet!

  • Eat moderately. Hey those poor kids, sometimes they feed on tree barks for a meal…really….There’s no guarantee you’ll have each meal. Man…honestly, I’ll rather have nothing. But think of it, how long can one sustain without food huh? They’re constantly living and facing such condition k. You can just starve yourself and dielar…

  • BE brave to be who you are. The performances by the disabled really touched the hearts of each and every one of us there. You may not feel the strength and power but at that very moment, I felt so ashamed. I see myself …tiny. Why? They did it, perfectly… in front of 5000 people. Can I? Haha…its so intimidating…

There’s many more to learn through this camp. It reflects that we are many many times luckier than others out there. Nope, you wont understand how is it like…unless you are there in the camp too…keke..its not bullshiting…Really..because when you’re not prepared to know, you just would not learn and feel it. The impact and impression is not as great when you hear or read from the newspapers or watch through documentaries.

Yup, the theme: Children of the world…What do we want or wish to do for the world’s children…In fact, there’s a lot we can do. But, how much can an individual do? A person’s help or strength is somehow limited HOWEVER together, we make IMPOSSIBLE miracles to happen.

Badminton World Championship

OMG..watching the matches lIVE in Putra Indoor stadium leaves me a whole lot of feelings and experience and honestly till now, when i recall those moments when we YElled and screamed for the players…It was just superb!!!! Shouting and cheering loudly for the Malaysian team especially….I can actually feel the "muhibah" spirit at that time, it makes you feel great …somemore when Merdeka day is just around the corner…Although we were not the winning team but overall, it was worth watching..Trust me…Its so different to see a match live rather through TV…

YEs…all was good except 1 thing that really make me worried….

The spectators were so emotionally "into" the game that they hardly notice what came out of their mouth! Harsh and rude comments…Booing the players…To me, these are soooo "kampung" minded lar….It just reflects how uncivilised malaysians are and the level of mentality we are having….Its so sad…Come on…Its so embarassing!!!!…

Well, just think how will the Malaysian players feel if they were treated like that while playing in overseas…Im sure we wont want them to be in such position also mah…

Put yourself in other’s shoe and consider others also lar…

Desperate…..

June 18th, 2007 by loveholiday

I told myself ….i must blog this, NO matter what….

I was suppose to resit my Performance Management(PMT) paper today…

Well, it was an afternoon paper….So as usual, i arrived college early morning…not very early lar, around 10, just to avoid any unnecessary, unwanted, un"wished" circumstances… who knows what will happen right…

At 115pm…still not giving up, like very smart like tht…STIll reading the notes, hoping tht it might save me a few points if i manage to scribble smth on the paper during exam later…

125pm…. suddenly…aiya..feel like going toilet…ok ok, better stop reading….So, i packed up my stuff, made a final check to make sure i had sufficeint pens to write, ID card, calculator…and 1 LAST important thing…My exam slip…

126pm…still searching for the exam slip…getting nervous ald….checking on the watch almost every 5 seconds to notice HOW LATE I AM…

128pm…search and "hunt" for the slip…Turning the file upside down for 2 to 3 times..BUT STILL NO SIGN OF IT!!!!!! GREAT! i have lost it…SO smart….half an hour more to exam and im stuck down here searching for the stupid exam docket. ( NO exam docket, NO entering the exam hall k)

OMG….I couldnt believe i was such an idiot!!! how could i mispalce such IMPORTANT document…So as usual, the panickey HUi Ann quickly rush down the library..completely blank mind…dont know what to do…with the blur look (very obvious)…rushing through the exit…

THEN, i saw 2 of my friends, ML and LK….I just dunno wat to say…should i greet them??? But i have no mood for that… I had no choice, i had to find someone to share my "worries"..I NEED HELP!!! ML quickly told me that i could go to the admin block to find someone to issue me a temporary exam docket….WHEW…i thought yes!!!….

BUT then, the admin block and the Library was "YEARS" away …i wanted to cry…How on earth am i flying there to get it done and rush back to the exam  venue on time?????…. at that very moment, my heart stopped pumping…OMG…i screwed up my final chance to graduate.

Just when everything was in a mess and hopeless, LK offered to drive me to the admin block and so without hesitation, i said ok… But as i reached the exam division, the officer was out for lunch… GREAT…140pm…in the admin block..still dunno what to do…no docket issued…HOW!????

Luckily, LK offered to drive me home to search for the exam slip and as i could think no more, i just followed… I went home… it was like a bet…take it or leave it…and then ,Well, we were back in college by 155pm…but empty handed…huh why? GUESS WHAT ?………..

YES…i did not find my docket at home..

So again, i went to the exam division, fortunately the officer was in this time. The temporary exam slip was issued in 5 min. And by the time i rushed to the exam room, yes…it was 205pm..only 5 min late…

and i managed to sit for my exam today.

I swear i was like a mad woman  today…running up and down…Like those refugees…running for their lives =P

But actually, I just wanted to say a BIG thank you to both my friends…They stretched out their hand to reach mine when i was almost falling down to some what deep bottom, bottomless, endless bottom valley…ah watever…. If it had not been for them, i think, i would not have sat for the exam in time….And this really means a lot to me….Love them both man….

i will always remember this day…what are friends for…They could do wonders, i tell you.

How can i miss this?

Its been 3 weeks since we last cook at the kitchen….yup, we’ve been constantly eating out due to tight time schedule, of course also because lazy lar…you know, have to prepare…cook…wash…

Well, yesterday, mom finally replenished the fridge with vege and meat, purposely went to sunday market to get them k…. Yes..all planning to heat up the wok and start cooking :) YEAy!! at last, home cook food….

So, in the evening, when the sky got darker, we planned our dishes for dinner and mom started cooking in the dark..(yah, the light at the wet kitchen ’sot -sot’ already…not functionning…mom had to get the ENERGIZER BIG TORCHlight to serve as her source of light… :) ) Well, we were a bit kelam-kabut lor…..walking in and out, with me holding the torchlight….aiy, so cham

Finally, just when we were almost done with the soup and dishes on the dining table, i went to get our rice served out. When i was about to scoop the rice, i saw the rice cooker …eee, how come the plug got disconnected from the plug point one…..hey!!! how come the rice cooker got no rice one? …………..

AIYA….we forgot to ‘pou fan’…MY godness, dinner without rice…kekekekekekeekkeek….so in the end….

Dinner time got postponed 20 min later

Never felt that warm…

Tell me,

How many daddies help to sew ballet ribbons on his daughter’s shoes and re-sew it when the ribbons are about to come off the next time….

How many daddies helped his daughter to “soften” the HARD LIKE WOOD point shoes by hammering and pressing the point shoes for hours to make it into a pair of soft point shoes when his daughter desperately needs it for class?

How many daddies willingly offer to mend the bottom layer of their ballet shoes?

And finally when its done, he will just lift up his head, smiling at the gal and say: “Its done …be careful when you wear it….else you will be turning back to me again.” No complaints but just a few soft words, enough to make this daughter feel the love and care of a great dad…..

I guess, he, will be the only few daddies taking the responsibility of “repairing & maintaining” ballet shoes for his daughter.

Mending the shoes is no big deal…but it’s the effort and passion put in while mending them, turning them into a decent pair of ballet shoes from the ragged old look, putting them back to usable form, “prolonging” its useful life just when the gal is considering dumping them in the dustbin……

Never thought of that, have you? Its not just the ballet shoes, but I believe, every parents’ wish is to provide the best to their children in all ways, shower them with tender loving care, giving whatever they can to satisfy their children’s needs…. But as a child, have you done whatever you can to show that you love them? I must admit, at times, self-fishiness just blinds me up and I’ve hurt them occasionally…. But to think of it, they’re not going to be here all the time, so, just do whatever you can, love them a lot…. That makes the world a better place J

Public manners….

February 3rd, 2007 by loveholiday

Had dinner with my family at this restaurant yesterday…..opposite us was three CHINA PEK UNCLEs, drinking beer….

So while eating, i suppose they were asking for a bill as they were leaving…Then suddenly i heard unpleasant tones and voices frm the table, the man seem to talk louder and louder… Frm what i hear, the Cina Pek guy said he paid a RM 50 dollar note bill whereas the waitress insistted that she only received RM 30 frm him….somemore to prove himself smart, he took out a BUNCH of RM 100 and RM 50 frm his pocket, saying that he does not have RM10 as its just small money to him, he doesnt take small notes with him along when he’s out!!! OMG…can you stand this!!!

The point was: the THREE of these UNCLES, NO brains, no manners, thick skin, idiots…. memalukan we chinese!!!! they come up with their damn scoldings in all sorts of dialect (cantonese, hokkien , hakka….) and it was in "series" ok…non-stop….like a trilogy…(T*&!@….T.*&?!…..T…m&*?!@)…like a radio or parrot they kept "singing"….it was TOTALLY ANNOYING!!!!!

I was so shocked!!!! At that very moment, i couldnt continue eating….how i wish i could be like those "DAI LO" in the HK movie…Just Give them a SHARP STARE and they just SHUT UP and leave quietly like a dog…..I was very mad…(although they didnt scold me lar, but still…its so bad to scold things like that….)

Chicken wings

January 14th, 2007 by loveholiday

Well, as usual my family and my aunt’s family went out for dinner on Sat. Where this time? heheehehe….We had steamboat…and to those who know this place, sure you’ll know why i use "chicken wings" as my title today ;) i do have smth interesting to share….

What’s the relationship between having steamboat and chicken wings here? I know, both are food…… Well, its a buffet style steamboat where customers actually take seafood and ingredients as much as they like frm the serving table to be dump in the hot soup. Well, you know lar, msians….always having that kind of thinking :hmm, i better take more, afterwards no more ald how? or …

aiy, very lazy lar, take banyak-banyak now then dont need to go so many rounds or ….

wah, this very nice….this also very nice….that also very nice…aiy just take all lar….

understand right?….hmm, in short, got a bit of ‘kiasu’ element lar….

OK well, the highlight isnt on the kiasu people. So,BEsides serving steamboat seafood, the restaurant actually does also serve beehoon, friedrice, chicken rendang, desserts, fruits and so on…. the things is: periodically, there will be a bunch of people surrounding this forever empty silver tray…EVERYBODY IS EYING ON SMTH… ANTICIPATING SMTH…I CAN SEE HUNGRY EYES…ANXIOUSLY WAITING..HOLDING TIGHT ON THEIR PLATES…EYES ON THE KITCHEN DOOR…AND (ten ten ten ten : the surprise music) THE LADY IS OUT!!!!!!! ….FULLY EQUIPED, evrybody gets ready to be invoLved in a 30 seconds battle…CHICKEN WINGS!!!!!! CHARGE!!!!! GRAB IT!!!!! ….get lost!!!…you’re BLOCKING ME….

HAHAHAHAHA….at that very moment, the whole restaurants’ focus was solely on the bunch of "chicken wing hunters"… there were clappings and sounds of whistlling… GOSH, can you imagine the degree of craving for a chicken wing is that terrible???!!!hahahhahahahahaha….cant help it, i just couldnt stop laughing…my bro and cousin were our "army" for the "battle"…they came back to the table with marks and scrathes everywhere…no lar, not that bad lar…its lines of chicken gravy and oil, splattered on their hand.

Aiyo, can you imagine having a chicken wing countdown session? just couldnt believe it….somemore, hey! there are other food on the table, you treat it as though they were not there!!!…ohwell, honestly, the chicken was nice, its well baked…but yet, me and teng analysed smth…maybe it wasnt because of the chicken wing that makes evrybody jump for it, maybe its because of the limited amount they serveout everytime..its the fun and thrill of grabbing and battling with others to get the wings…its the anticipation…its the victory that counts….huh, god knows why…

Its interesting having dinner there…you’ll see the makan semangat we people have and you’ll be so amazed. The table members will give some sort of "strategy" to their "army" like which is the strategic location to stand so that you can grab faster or when to start waiting near the table or teach them to get the chicken wing "giap" so that others dun have the equipment to fight with you or whatvever lar…. aiyo, so funny…hey, somemore to make battling for the wings worth it, there were cheering for those who won ok….

It was fast, shorter than 30 seconds maybe. You’ll see so many expressions while they were battling…you’ll see pride and smiles on faces of those who manage to grab the whole lot of wings, you’ll also see those dissapointed looks on those who are left behind and again watching over the empty silver tray … oh, forgot to mention, the "army" who went were mostly guys, so does this imply anything? its up to you to conclude…

Actually, to me,  maybe this could just indirectly lead to excessive wastage…wwhy? you see, when someone fails to achieve what they want at first, they’ll swear to themselves to get more the next time. So, ending up everybody grabbing more chicken wings than they actually wanted….will this happen??? hmm, what do you think?

Finally…..Day 3

November 1st, 2006 by loveholiday

Heehee….are you "full" yet? ……I know, i know….you must be thinking…how did you girls did it? right? Well, i think….its the "makan" spirit we’ve got ;) Hmm, ready to follow up whats with the last day before going back to KL? … lets go!!!!

okok, the next morning…we were suppose to get up early like the previous day…sigh…however, due to the late night poker game on bed….everyone just didnt want to get up frm the cozy bed the next morning:)  Till someone screamed : HEY !!! BReakfast!!! ….Then we recalled….Ya hor…We still got unticked places in our makan list…ok then…Im up!!!!

Item 1 in our menu- Toast bread with soft boil eggDscf0083_edited..oh yeah..it was smth special..Its not like the kaya toast bread we usually have…its a salty taste this time…try this at home and tell me how is it like k… Ooh well, bread wasnt enough for us of course…see next to the bread? its "Chee Cheong Fun topped with mushroom sauce" Yeah…we ordered that too…CCF in KL is usually served with "tim cheong and lat chiu" (sweet black sauce and some chilli sauce) but not in Ipoh..The mushroom sauce is salty served with some green cut chilli at the side… mm mm..special eih?

Yup…we went for a second round of breakfast…. CurryDscf0087 noodles…This is a familly-run business. They had this secret "special" ingredient added to the curry that makes everyone craves for it…giggling…god knows whats in it… Ok…they serve you plain noodles with curry, either "dry" or " with soup"…and they also offer some things for you to add in your noodles…chicken meat, fishball, "siew yoke" - roasted pork that looks totaaly marvelous when its added in the noodles…

Finish Curry mee….we have one more untick destination in our list….OHHHHH ….its the hakka "kon low mee"…The last and final dish in our hunting list…Ok one thing to comment, magazine doesnt tell you everything ….its not totally smth you need to follow….The kon low mee was suppose to taste nice…however, since we packed the noodles and ate it before we left…so it was very dry then…aiya…finally somehthing to pick on..hmm, so pic can be deciving at times :)

Of course, before leaving Ipoh, we went to buy Ipoh’s famous "heong piah" , "Kai Chai Beng" and other tid-bits…so its true…when you go Ipoh, sure you’ll come back with 2, 3 bags of things….So can you imagine H.Ann bringing back lots of food stuff with both hands and her luggage around her? hehehehe… Cannot imagine im such a "silai"-auntie…… Sigh…..VEry happy with the trip this time!!!! If you have the chance, go try on a trip like that k….but not too much lar…remember…once like that its enough, or else you’ll be in a round round shape like me then…How?
