HOliday down south
Sunday, December 30th, 2007Just days after coming back from Penang, I made another trip to Melaka with a few friends.
This time, since mom n dad are not with me, no cars to zoom me here and there, no unlimited money that i can spend, no luxury hotel rooms to stay in…
We travellled round town by walking mostly. GOsh! and those 2 days were hot & sunny till I had t-shirt marks on my back = =" *Gals got to really take note of that k, you dont want this to happen on you…Oh besides walking, we even had the opportunity to ride on Melaka Town bus that cost us only 70 cents per person…and guess what, they had bus conductor on it. Well, its a rare scene in KL to catch a bus with a conductor selling a 70 cents ticket to you…. (mind you, dont compare it with Metrobus pls….CUrse you, Metrobuses!!!!!)
Well it took us a long way to look for the hotel. Its situated near Jonker street. We walked a "BIG ROUND" to get there. I swear, it was so HOT and sweaty….And by the time we reach, we couldnt check in the hotel when we’ve arrived because its too early(around 1100am).Rooms were not ready yet. Thus, we decided to explore the places around first. So, this is when Our "treasure hunt" thus started-
To rest our feet and feed our growling stomach,we had our first meal,
Chicken Rice BAll with "white steamed chicked"…The chicken meat was lousy cause they served either a grandpapa or grandmama chicken. You know…the meat where you can chew forever and ever but cannot swallow down still. a dissapointment.
After lunch, we went visiting around.. Well-known tourists spots like St Paul’s hill, A’famosa, The Big Ship, the stamp museum, the "art-of-beauty"musuem etc.
Weather was fine until late noon when rain showered for a while. We were exhausted by then. hot.sweaty.sticky. We then decided to walked to Jonker Street to look for smth.Smth most of us would like to have in such "oven-like" weather.icy.sweet………YES!! its Cendol!
…i was practically dragging myself down the street to look for it..It was like walking in a desert and hoping to see an oasis appear immediately….We found one small shop that sells nyonya cendol (but it tastes the same as the usual one we have in KL…)Without further hesitation, we ordered 4 bowls of cendol. Before us was a chinese family with lots of lots of children. They ordered and ordered for food and the tauke-soh was the only person who is handling the ice shaver with her daughter and maid clearing the tables and plates…I tell you..i really felt like cursing them at tht moment. Our cendols were not ready yet after 15 min…arghhHHHHH….made me crazy…..But…but.. after an icy cold bowl of cendol, it rejuvenates a person i tell you…you really got to try this..can feel the cold liquid tickling my burning throat =) syiok…
DInner was quite special. Erm, i dunno whether do we have it in KL or not. But its quite a cute idea though. Its call the "satay celup"….the name sounds yummy isnt it?…They have a pot in the middle of the table.
The pot is full of this reddish-oilly-hot looking kuah. Its the kuah kacang we serve with our satays but this is a little hotter having less kacang in it. Haha but the way they total the bill…its funny… They count the sticks you ate and multiply them by 50cents. We had 80 sticks…=) Do you know, this delicacy is VERY famous in Melaka where crazy diners form a long long long queue outside the shop starting frm 5 smth in the evening, just to have fishballs, crabsticks, vege deeped in kuah kacang for their dinner
…WALAU….only one word to describe them..GReedy eaters! (wai-sek in cantonese)…kekekekeke
Oh during dinner,we purposely half-filled out stomach to save it for better food during the later part of the evening. Hehe, finally,we "lepaked" at Jonker Walk, a must-go visiting spot. We had yummy nyonya asam laksa and another serving of ice-kacang (better this time) for supper.
Jonker Walk- the pasar malam every fri,Sat and Sun night.WAsai…Packed with tourist, Full of Eatery and Souveneir stalls, Performers on stage,Karaoke Singing… a Happening place to be! But if you dont enjoy crowdy places, take my advice, once is enough.
I was in Melaka for 2 days…tiring… but its enjoyable though. I was bringing 2 full-load bags home when i left. YOU know lar, those hand-made noodles, coconut sweet(my favourite), Pineapple rolls etc. Too much hor, all food..gosh!
However, one factor that made this trip enjoyable—— is because of those who i went with. I longed to go out with them. Its quite an golden opportunity to get together. TIme is the limit. It will not be that flexible for everyone later when they start working or even gets busy with their assignments. I understand, everyone will be occupied by their chores in future. So,…."Cherrishing the moment we have" …..that’s what im doing…
